Day 19, Thursday, July 12, 2007

Today began cloudy and our whale-watching cruise was on hold pending the weather but it began to clear. Our cruise was scheduled for 1:00 pm. Tim and Dea went into Bar Harbor early to shop. Ellen and I took the dogs to a "doggie day care" kennel then met up with them for lunch - another lobster roll for all. Not a very good one! D & E met a young guy (of course) yesterday at a bar who worked at a downtown deli and claimed to make the best lobster roll in the area. Not!

Boarded our boat for the cruise and went out to sea. Unfortunately, we did not see. No whales! It was nice to go for a boat ride off-shore but got to be boring. The weather did clear somewhat but it was very cold out there - they said 40, but my guess is it was probably no lower than 50. The seas were choppy and about 5 feet or more. A lot of passengers (the boat held maybe 150), and I mean a lot of passengers got seasick. The boat crew were really busy cleaning up messes. There was a guarantee of seeing whales and we were offered a free ticket to back out another day, but once was enough.

We drove around Acadia before heading back to camp for Ellen's famous meatball dinner. It was. The campground provides nightly entertainment of some sort and tonight it was Elvis. Dea is an Elvis fan so we stopped by to watch for awhile. He noticed her enthusiasm and invited her onstage for a co-performance of "Return To Sender". It was great! We are kicking ourselves in the butt for not having our cameras with us to record if for you all to see.

Again, my camera keeps recording erroneous dates, so please do not rely on picture dates to be accurate.

And another. Not much to take pictures of. No stops for whales and can't get stable enough to take a picture while the boat is moving.

Gracie's new baby "LuLu" the lobster. Her former baby "DoDo" is no longer with us. A few nights ago, for a reason we do not know, Gracie attacked DoDo and shredded her.
